DeWALT is a worldwide brand of electric and hand tools for the construction, manufacturing and woodworking industry. It is a subsidiary of Stanley Black & Decker.
The original DeWALT company was started in 1936 by Elmer Raymond DeWalt (9-10-1885 - 8-05-1961), the inventor of the radial arm saw. The company grew quickly and was reorganized in 1947 for the production of radial arm saws and other stationary woodworking machines.
In 1949 DeWALT was sold to American Machine & Foundry, which was acquired in 1960 by Black & Decker. In 2010, DeWALT was part of the fenture between Stanley and Black & Decker with which is now a days known as Stanley Black & Decker.
